New Journey with new Dr

Hi guys I have been missing in action for a while now. Trying to make sense of all of this. I just went and saw a Neurosurgeon in Nashville Tenn., Dr Arendall. My husband straight ask him could another vascular brain surgeon look at my MRI and say definetly that i did not have a AVM but a DVA ? He said No one can do that . He said it looks to be a AVM deep in the brain. He had his fellow doctors look at it too and they agreed. They have worked with AVMS but he had not. So he ordered a Angio to be done on the 16th. Then he said they could see the blood flow clearly and then decide on apporach to take. He told me due to location gamma knife or radiation is about the only two options I would have. Have any of you ever went there for treatment? The office is called Neurosurgical Associates at 345 23rd Ave N #420 Nashville, TN ? I am having horrible problems with my right leg. Electrical pulses constantly or pain , either or. Don't know if I have injured my back or if its my brain doing this to my leg. He said he sees no bulging disc in my back from Mri done so he ordering a CT of low back to see if I have a bone spur rubbing a nerve. This has been going on since Jan . Can't wait til this is over.

I know there have been past recommendations here, pongladi, from Tennessee. Please don't get your angio just at any old office; make sure it is one of the best. I will take a look later for you and see what recommendations I can find. Convenience is not the most important factor here.

An angiogram is definitely the best way to see what exactly it is but I agree with dancermom. You'll want to make sure it's with someone who is experienced in this area.

Pongladi, join the Southeast AVM group (http://www.avmsurvivors.org/group/southeastavmsurvivors) and click "Send message to group." You can email all of the members in that group and ask them to recommend someone in Tennessee or nearby who is very experienced with brain AVMs, with good interventional radiologists for angios.

Also, see this list: http://health.usnews.com/top-doctors/search?doctor=Name&specialist=Neurosurgeons&specialties=070&doctor_gender=&location=TN&distance=200&hospital=Hospital+Name&x=77&y=15

Possibly Vanderbilt?

Have you look around in your area for a new technology specifically for the brain to better diagnosis any disease and trauma.

It is call: Susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI), originally called BOLD venographic imaging.

Check with your neurologist or call any university hospital within a 100 miles and check with your insurance. This is a new MRI that is providing more information then ever. CNN has a video with Dr. Arthur Toga from UCLA on this new technology. Just the beginning! The first SWI imaging began at Walter Reed Hospital.

We live in Oregon and just found out that OHSU Medical Center has one and it is new!

Hope this helps to confirm and validate if related to your brain. God Bless

I wish you the best in your search for the BEST dr. for you!
Re: your comment: I am having horrible problems with my right leg. Electrical pulses constantly or pain , either or. Don't know if I have injured my back or if its my brain doing this to my leg. I'd encourage you let your neurologist know of these symptoms. Such symptoms ?can? be what's known as central pain syndrome.

Angio is scheduled at centennial hospital in Nashville, TN.. Anyone use this place?

Pongladi, I am a true believer in finding the BEST AVM neurosurgens in your area and getting a second opinion. What I have to say is..find the BEST who knows everything about having an AVM. I wish you the best..

Pongladi, you are in my prayers as these are tough decisions you and your hubby have to make. Good luck on your testing
