AVM Rupture June 6th, 2021

Welcome and sorry to hear about your recent experience… In regards to your question it would be best to seek professional medical advice from your doctors dealing with your matter as they are the experts.

In my case and what I know of generally an angiogram is done to check an AVM is present in the event it has been missed on a CT/MRI scan or for detailed information… It is also done to check it has been removed entirely after treatment or for follow up if suspected regrowth… there are risks associated with all procedures and I have had 3 angiograms in my situation being:

  1. After my bleed prior to surgery,
  2. Follow up after surgery to confirm it was removed completely &
  3. To check for possible regrowth years later.

They state the angio is the gold standard with AVM’s so you would need to weigh up the risks of having one vs the reasons to go through the procedure, which the doctors may feel is not needed… I hope this information helps and wishing you all the best… God bless!
