AVM-hereditary

I don’t know my real mom, but just found out from a relative that she has AVM. She has had 4 brain surgeries. I’m now scared for me and my boys. Can I have this too? What should I do? Can my boys get this? Any information would be great! Thank you

Hi somer. This link might answer your question…http://www.avmsurvivors.org/group/HHT. Not everyone has HHT who has an AVM. I understand your concern. My maternal grandmother was adopted so I can only go back so far in my medical history too.

Somer, AVMs are generally not thought to be hereditary, however some genetic conditions (like HHT) do tend to make some people more likely to have an AVM. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor. Doctors don't often suggest MRIs or CTs for people who are unsymptomatic though but perhaps your doctor could help ease your concern.

I did ask my relative said she was never diagnosed with HHT … So is that better for me and my boys. Thank you for all your advice!
