Pregnant with twins and uterine AVM

Hello,

I first joined after I miscarried and found out I had AVM in my uterus at the same time. We are now expecting twin boys and I worried about birth. I have apts with high risk doctors on Tuesday to see placement of placenta but they are worried if its anywhere near my AVM which is the whole front of my uterus I would go from already high risk to extremely. Anyone else have a similar issue? Not sure what to expect anymore.

wow, MamaManda, I can imagine your worry as a father of twin boys myself, But thankfully there mother didn’t have the AVM it was me. I really hope that your meeting with the doctors on Tuesday goes well and they have a clear and understandable plan for your pregnancy from what I have read here over the year the issue with being pregnant and having an AVM is related to higher blood pressure. But I’m sure your doctors will give you all the details you need and you will be in good hands. Take care and take it easy  .

So an update. I had an apt. with a specialist on Tuesday and good news the placentas are not on my AVM the bad news is its on the weakest point of the uterus that stretches and thins even more as the pregnancy progresses. It also happens to be right where the would cut over for a c section. They told me my uterus is already very thin there from the AVM and since it will only get thinner it is possible for my uterus to give out and burst. I now have to change hospitals and doctors because of blood tranfusions that would be required and on the spot removal of the whole uterus should this happen. Since women with mutiples are high risk for c sections they have to be prepared for that as well. I hope if this worse case happens the babies are viable and able to be saved. The waiting game begins.

Hi, MamaManda. I have a similar situation going on here but I only have 1 baby boy. My right uterine AVM was discovered at 12 weeks and as of today, it doesn’t seem to be growing(I’m 18 weeks now). How many weeks are you? How big your AVM measures? Was it treated after your miscarriage ?

My AVM actually has grown since this pregnancy started. I am 25 week on
Friday. I am seeing MFM and the highest risk doctor in WA. (3rd ob for this
pregnancy) They stated I will have to have blood on hand when I deliver.
Mine was on the verge of having to have an ablation. The doctor actually
stated the fact I didnt get it was great because it can make you hemorrhage
even more with birth. Have the spoke to you about all the other risks?
Where its located? I now have to have a csection which greaters my risk for
hemorrhage due to where my AVM is located is where they would cut. Sorry
for all the questions I am just super interested in your situation since
you are the only one I’ve “met” to have the same issue. Did they give you
the line of, “well your uterus could just give out at any time” speech too?

Hi Mamamanda, I cannot comment on your uterine AVM as I have limited exposure to these, But my wife did have twins but without an AVM, Just wanted to say that she had 1 son before and then fell pregnant with twins (We tried for a girl and got twin boys ! heheheh ) , Anyway the good news in this story is that she had a natural birth of the tiwns without complications at all, This should give you hope the doctors are talking about a section to prepare you just in case this needs to happen but it may not happen  , I wish you the very best of health for your pregnancy and hope everything goes well for the birth also. Take care and rest well.

Hi, MamaManda. I know the feeling you have - there are not too many cases of uterine avm with successful pregnancies. I hope we can change it.
My AVM is about 3,7×2,5 cm. I am 20 weeks pregnant and being observed by 3 doctors: obgyn, high risk obstetrician and interventional radiologist. So far the plan is observation until 34 and c-section then. The AVM is located in the myometrium of the uterine, lower right side so I will be having so called " classic" c section when a doctor makes a cut over the top of uterus. 6 weeks after my c section Im to have embolization of that husky Avm.
My high risk doctor is recommending to admit me for my last 6 weeks into the hospital for clise observations and we are considering doing it. It’s one of the best hospitals on this coast - Georgetown university hospital- so I hope they know what they are doing.
How big did your avm grow? What is the doctors plan of care for you ?
