Emotional support for facial AVM?

Hello everybody,
I had a facial AVM my whole life but have been experiencing some growth within the last year and a half, and all the doctors tell me we cannot do anything.
I think I reached a moment where I really need some emotional support from a specialist, would anybody have any Dr to refer, especially around San Francisco area?
Thank you for reading and have all a wonderful day,
zabbie

You'll hear from supporters after the holiday w/e. I have an extremity AVM so my info is not relevant. But I do offer you support at this time; I am just coming out of "a winter of discontent". I seem to have seasonal mood changes. My acceptance of my limitations is problematic at times. Birthmark.org might offer you some help in finding a qualified therapist.

Maybe some other member knows of a book to suggest? Self-image Issues would not require an AVM specialist?? (my Would it be the same for a burn victim? I don't know your specific needs. Pain? Kaykay.com: check that website.exact name would be on webpage of birthmark.org. She is a lovely woman in Trinidad who does her best to live a happy life; despite a large facial PWS with a series of debulking procedures. She has a blog; I read it b/c she is truly one of the "funnest" people I know. Clever, very up-to-date in this digital age.Incredible resilience. She smiles at people who stare; the reactions are usually ones of concern. Just some suggestions; maybe you need help at a basic level. Such as a SSRI anti-depressant. Personally, I seek specialists and I follow that rule with psychiatrists. Primary care doctors can offer refills; but I personally believe a psychiatrist is needed to pick the initial meds, adjust as necessary then tweak the dose. The meds can change your perspective. From there,a therapist and support group are invaluable. I wish you all the best. eileen

eileen, thank you so much for your answer! the links you gave me are pretty interesting. I am glad that you are getting out of your "winter of discontent"...A book would probably be helpful, I am investigating all the possible ressources, and thankfully it looks like there are a lot! When I mentioned specialist, I meant a therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist who may have experience with physical marks patients, or this area...
I will try to avoid the meds as long as I can, but if it is the last option, let it be;)
I hope you will stay out of your discontent, thank you so much again for your answer, I really appreciate it!!!

Hello Angela, thank you so much for the referral! Are you still seeing her?

Hello Zabbie I have not been feeling great so I have not seen her since I think last year. I got a bad staph infection during the holidays and then been having weird stroke like symptoms. She is really nice.
Angela
