My daughter Erin is suffering from terrible headaches, which we know are a part of all of this. However, my frustration starts with the Dr.s who refuse to give her any medication to help alleviate them because she is a college student! They seem to think she may sell them or have them stolen! I understand how some kids are these days but, if they have ever had a headache like my daughter has they would know that she would guard these med.s as if they were gold. Anyone who has these types of headaches knows that any amount of relief is "close to heavenly" Why wont they help her?
Thanks for any advice and the place where I can vent.

Hi Lisa, I had Shannon in the hospital last week with a rough headache. She was pretty scared this time. These kids should not have to suffer with them. I don't get doctors most of the time but feel blessed with the one we have chosen. He has much more personality and compassion than most. What do they want her to do? If she weren't at school, would the give her meds? She has to be able to continue on with her daily life as best as she can and they should be glad she is at school. Glad I could connect with you again even if I don't have the answers.
Comment by DeAndra on February 10, 2012 at 10:54pm I know EXACTLY what you mean. About a week before the hemorrhage, I went to a local dr. (not my pcp) for something minor, an ear infection or something silly. I had just gotten over a four day long headache. I now believe that the "headache" was actually a leak or small bleed, but at the time I just thought it was a nasty headache. It started right after I got up in the mornings and kept me up half the nights, and it was the same pain I felt after the hemorrhage. I mentioned it to the doctor and he immediately went into this tirade of how he could not give me pain meds because I was pregnant, blah, blah, blah. I was not after pain meds because, like he said, I WAS PREGNANT! Anyway, he blew me off and about a week later I had the bleed. In his defense, he had gotten into some trouble with some accusations involving women and pain meds (which I believe totally false since I went to church with the guy for years). I remember that and I think if me had only listened to me, maybe just referred me for a test to get me out of his hair, there may be even the tiniest chance that someone could have caught my AVM before it ruptured and covered half my brain in blood :( I know it is not really his fault and he did what he thought best and more than likely I would not have been referred because I was pregnant, but he could at least have listened to me rather then making me feel like he thought I was some junkie off the street looking for pills.
Comment by Lisa on February 10, 2012 at 6:38am Thank you both, Louisa I took your advice and called the Dr. back. he has an appt. scheduled for Monday with Erin, myself and a headache specialist. This is one thing I love about Erin's Dr., he gets things done in a very timely manner. Thanks again!

Lisa, I don't blaim you for venting..There are so many people using the meds and it scares the doctors. Perhaps calling the doctor AGAIN and asking for time to really talk about what is happening to Erin...I am so sorry for Erin. Let us know if her doctor can understand that she needs help. Stay Strong, Mom!
