This just shows all of us that anyone can have this birth defect and not know it. Here is an individual playing a violent sport where I'm sure he has suffered concusions at some level. Yet the AVM was never found. As explained to me, this is a birth defect that formed prior to my birth about 18 weeks into the development of the fetus. I had no symptoms and discovered this due to testing related to diabetes. I am unlucky enough to have two instead of just one. It is emotional and now that I know they're there, I am compelled to have them fixed. I wish the Eagles player well and I doubt the AVM was the result of him playing the game that he loves. It is rather just the misfortune of nature that caused it.

Just wrote a column on my avm and how my symptoms 14 years after the surgery are very similar to that of someone with an autoimmune disease. It can be found at www.ourtrilakesnews.com

Having a AVM is very emotional, being diagnosed with it when you are starting out in your career/life is even more stressful. I was diagnosed with my AVM a few months before I was going off to college. I had to stop packing and start thinking about brain surgery. It was vey difficult. I would never wish this on anyone but now with this athlete being diagnosed with it I read there will be more research in it. It's sad it takes someone famous to being diagnosed with it to spark more interest in AVM's. Nonetheless, I wish him well.
