Has anyone seen the following story concerning Zocor and talked to their doctor about it?

I subscribe to CholesterolNetwork.com and saw the following story about how Zocor (simvastatin) may have a negative impact on nerve repair:

http://www.reutershealth.com/archive/2009/06/09/eline/links/20090609elin024.html

I have taken simvastatin for several months now. I intend to ask my doctor about this story when I see him in August, but I was wondering if anyone else had read the story and discussed it with a doctor.

Hi Rick,

That's sort of what I was thinking as well.

I also was a journalist in another life. My short career was centered around family page type activities. The last journalistic job I had was as an editor of a weekly newspaper that had family-type news in it. That was a very long time ago. But I do use copy editing skills in correcting errors and updating information in an online library catalog.

Take care,

Debbie

Dear Debbie,
I had not seen that before but would not get too worried about it. In a previous life I was a journalist covering health and medicine. The story you pointed out was based on an animal study but doesn't say what kind of animals. If the Zocor study was in mice, for example, they're a long way from dogs, which are a long way from monkeys, which are a long way from humans. That's the research trail animal studies can follow. You can relax until you get around to talking to your doctor.
Hope this helps.
Rick
