Audrey lives…The diagnostic cerebral angiogram took a little longer than anticipated. My doc was called on out on a family emergency as I was being wheeled into the procedure room. So one of his associates completed the angio. No biggy except I was not introduced and felt odd answering to a man telling me ‘Now hold you breathe…ok you can breathe now’. Since the site was too close to a branching vein, no sealant was used, just pressure and flat on my back for longer than I care to be. In by 8 AM out about 6:30 PM but I still stopped at Red Robin for my birthday burger!!!
Before I left I was told the AVM is still not completely cut off, feeders still exist. (This was from the doctor who left on a family emergency, since he was back) He would consult with the neurosurgeon to determine the next step. I received a call from the PA that I needed to make an appointment with the neurosurgeon who would explain the next step. (My emotions were high so I’m sure I came across rudely to the PA and the surgeon’s receptionist. No, let’s take a step back, I was just plain rude-which I find I am more-so post bleed. I say what I think now instead of thinking first and 9 of 10 times regret it)
That appointment was today. My AVM is on the small size but is still being fed by vessels too small to reach to glue without cutting off vital arteries, too inconvenient for surgery with the recommendation of radiation treatment. I learned the difference between Cyber Knife and Gamma Knife but a lot of the process I already learned from this site and my own research. So now with a referral in hand I need to make appointment with another doctor (thank god he is ‘in network’ in my medical plan). This new doc will determine which treatment would be to my advantage. If cyber knife, the neurosurgeon would be there with me, if gamma knife, I would be referred to another surgeon/facility (no gamma in the same medical group facility). Decisions, decisions, decisions…there is also the option to wait and see what my AVM would do without any further intervention. But small feeders get stronger, bigger and if it blows up like last time there may be no more me.
Thanks for reading…sorry I tend to ramble but it helps ME sort things out.
