Hi from sunny England

Im due in for surgery in April 2013 for a frontal lobe brain AVM removal.

Im wanting to get this done but the reality of the surgery has put me on edge. With stress my symptoms become worse and the thought of the surgery has put me in a trans like state with the negativity of impending doom.

Im realy having a moment thinking to my self is this realy the right thing to do.

Has any one got any stories of surgery that would like to share, good or bad and is this how you felt before you had the crainiotomy ?

Hi Richwag,

I'm glad to hear that your surgery went well, and your headaches have stopped. Best wishes for a full recovery. Thanks for the update.

Surgery done 10th April. Bit rough for two weeks and the first week couldn't walk properly or think straight but seem fine now with some seizures but they are very minor. Last week I had a 5 day stay in hospital with an infection - a thumb print size bit of skin has died and it needs cutting out, find out tomorrow if that's the case or not but the infection has now passed and that is reassuring. Slow road to recovery but in all I feel much better than I did per surgery and bonus my headaches have completely stopped ...

Yeah had an avm in my right frontal lobe and I had 3 angios and embolizations to decrease the size which helped for surgurey, had the surgurey 2 weeks ago and the doctors were amazing they removed it all and there was little bleeding during the surgurey! Now I'm feeling normal again just a little tired but I can do everything except strenuous activities for a few months, you will be ok! Good luck!

Hello, I had frontal lobe surgery back in May 2011 my AVM went bang so I didn't' have a choice but it was the best thing they could of done. The doctors were fantastic they managed to get rid of all of if my life has changed because I had a stroke at the sametime of the bleed. Lots of physio and O/T afterwards staying positive is the key, I was 39 when mine happened, please listen to the doctors they are the experts. I new to this forum site only signed up today but would like to share my story with others.

Hello Richwag,

I feel your uncertainty, the feeling of "on the edge"... but i admire your courage for wanting to get it done.. That's the spirit... my case, i wanted to escape.. not wanting it.. but the day that needed to be done... Crainotomy is a must.
All i can say... be strong, positive... dont be afraid.. you will get through this; I know. My recovery after the operation is great... to the fact that as if its nothing happen well of course except for the fresh stiches on my right head... and... even after 10 days of my operation .. i started to drive my car again ...
its now 8 months.. and I am working with the same position with I have... Grateful that I am well ....
Prayers for you and the success of operation... and i wish everyone a good health..
take good care...

Hi Richwag,

I can attest that stress does make the symptoms worse. Try to stay strong and positive, and you will get through this. I'm sure your surgeon has carefully considered that surgery is the best option. I'm also sure he's confident in his own abilities. I understand though how you feel. I think most of us go through that stage of fear -- we can't give in to it, and we must do what is best for the sake of our health. I will pray that everything goes well when that time comes. You'll be fine -- stay strong and keep the faith. Keep us posted. God bless!
