We're AVM Survivors, Here For Your Support...

Well i recently found out that i was pregnant again, not trying but it did occur. Well my AVM is really large and been having a lot of problems, my doc advised me to terminate the pregnancy due to the fact that im only 9 weeks and been on a health roller coaster. They wont sign off to terminate cause they arent my OB.. OB wont do it cause im not dying RIGHT now.. They said i have a 77% chance of a large hemorage. The doc doesnt believe that i would make it threw it. Well to cut to the facts i have to terminate and the clinic wants to give me a valium before the surgery... I dont know if anyone else has had Valium with AVM. My doc is on vacation... can someone PLEASE help!!

Hi, welcome to the website. I wouldn't worry about the valium. It doesn't cause your blood pressure to go up. If anything, I think it will help to keep you calm while your going through an extremely stressfull experience and situation. Take care and I hope the best for you, I don't know if you believe in God, but I will pray for you. Miracles can and do occur.

May I ask what's your decision now?

Somehow, I still can't appreciate 'medical abortion.' And I'm glad you and your doctors are not considering it. May you always be guided.

i
had an very large 12.5cm avm...that was showning signs of rupture with several anurysms ...i was given valium to reduce my stress levels and help calm me down ..it works by supressing the central nevous system ...in turn relaxing the muscles and brain ...it safe to use with an avm

I've had Valium with no issues. In fact my old doctor once gave it to me pre-op to help reduce the anxiety of waiting my turn. I didn't "like" it cause I'm a control freak and the relaxed state it put me in was counter intuitive! :)

It's really just a sedative. I don't think it should be an issue, but I don't really know what a sedative does that may/may not affect your brain. I'm a "no-brainer" after all and some medications may not have the same effect on me as they would on you.

I would think that even if your doctor is on vacation that someone in his office could answer your question. Does he have nurses or a PA that work for him? You should call them and ask for sure.

Sorry I'm not much help! Good luck with your procedure. So sorry that you are faced with this situation right now. I'm sure it isn't something that you were wanting to have happen.
