in 1977 while riding my trail bike i felt dizzy so began riding home .my home was un sight but i woke on dhe ground mt helmet was next to me the petrol tank was dinted the handle bars were bent.after i dont know how long dizzy an scared i rode home not albe to speak.afrer two days of womiting i went to hospital with concusion went home 5 dats later.six months later i had a grand mal sezure,straight to hospital and found the AVM i was put on dilantin i had two more sezures over the 18 months but each one not as bad. My dear mother spoke to doctors who said its to risky to operate she prayed for me every day,i lost weight tired and scared. slowly i stopped taking the dilantin,i never talked to the doctors as i was young and wanted my life back to normal. i know i always had a fear of what might and can happen . nearly thirty years later i was referd referd to see a nuro surgon after many tests i had three options i took surgery my operation took 8 hours ,ell went well, the next day sitting up eating lunch i had a bleed or sweelling in the brain,back to ICU for a week it was touch and go .After another week in hospital, i was moved to caufield hospital for another five weeks then thank god home.

when leaving hospital my dilantin level was increased ,i was having reguler blood tests and my levels were good,after a couple of months and after the latest blood test my lavels were still im the right range,yet i was feeling worse i left it go for a couple more weeks,but felt even worse.after another week no beter.my wife took me wo my local doc who said striaght to hospital i felt so bad i knew something was wrong.i was given another set of blood tests showing my dilantin was way to high i… Continue

good but scared
it was great to be home but without but i still had this fear and anxious about the future,it was about two or three weeks before i started rehab again physio speech and OT,i was so nervios about seeing my doctor to finally show me and tell me the AVM is complettly gone

Thank you for your call on the weekend - so good to speak with you and learn a bit more about your story and how you are dealing with life post the procedure.
I was going to ring you today, as I had said, but after the very long pre op at The Alfred, which was so drawn out and tedious, I just wanted to come home and try not to think about hospitals, my hair being shaved, a tube being shoved down my throat to assist with breathing during the operation, or the fact that I could have another bleed during the procedure or having to again undergo an MRI scan on Monday before my operation!!!!!! Ir's now less than a week away Shane and it's such a scary thought. The staff at the hospital were all lovely and understanding and comforting but I still freak out every time I think about it. So I'm going to try not to!
