2 AVMs, 2 Aneurysms
Just saw the doctor yesterday, he says I have 2 AVMs, which I knew, but also that I have 2 aneurysms, one of which I knew about, the other, smaller one, I didn't. On October 8 they're going to coil the larger of the two aneurysms, which is 6mm now. Any advice or words of wisdom, anyone ?

Wow Audree you do things in grand style :-) With just the info provided above, here's my take: I have a large left hemisphere avm and aneurysms go hand in hand with them. An MRI revealed a 7mm wide-necked aneurysm at the basilar artery junction in the base of the brain - go figure. Anyway, they broke it up into two procedures: 1) double stenting in May 2008 and 2) coiling in August 2008. The neurosurgeon used general anesthesia on me for this and overnighted me as a precaution. Got no sleep. They did the reality check thing every two hrs but were nice about it. Best to err on the side of caution but every place is different. This past August, the doctor did the arteriogram while I was awake and said the aneurysm was "obliterated." :-)
You are blessed that the aneurysm can be coiled. I was nervous at first, but I studied up on the procedure, asked questions, had a good doctor, nurses, and the worst part was laying still with a catheter stuck in me. Would love to know more about your situation when you have time unless it's already posted somewhere as I'm rather new here.
