Well everyone I had my bleed on August 27 2007 and was only 15 and a half at the time but the hospital I was in was a childrens one and they got my mum and dad in to a room on there own and told them to prepare for the worst to happen to me as they really thought I was going to pass away? But my question is why dont doctors and nurses have faith and hope for the best for patients?xxx

Permalink Reply by Diane on February 14, 2012 at 7:54pm I agree with you!! When I was in the hospital at the age of 23, the doctor kept walking into the waiting room and would say "I can't believe she is still alive"! Well, I showed him, and it has been close to 30 years!!
Now -- its your turn -- you show the doctor what faith and hope does for a person!!
Take Care!

As a nurse myself (i worked in the neonatal intensive care unit) we have alot of faith and hope for our patients. We unfortunately also need to educate patients and family of possible outcomes or we would not be doing our jobs. I can tell you some nurses have more faith then others and I am so sorry you werent given the faith and hope you were looking for.

Permalink Reply by Gavin's mom <3 on February 14, 2012 at 11:09pm Yes we are all very blessed!!! I dont go a single day without kissing my blessings (sons). I always have questions about my son; why him? why us? why is god testing us again? I hope i am able to get to a point like yourself where I no longer have to ask these questions!

Hi Jay,
I really don't know the answer but it seems better to have a doctor give the worst case scenario and have things come out better. I guess it makes them look better to. I guess it's up to us and our loved ones to stay positine when faced with a medical challenge. But I really don't know. Probably something to ask them to get their perspective. Good question!

I was the older than you and counted as an adult though only in my mid-teens
when I had my brain bleed. As I was an adult they needed my consent. The dr sat on the end of my bed and said they had to operate. If they didn't I would have another bleed and it would be fatal.
I said 'fatal as in dead?'
They said 'yes.'
They ran through all the possible outcomes b4 I signed the consent form. They were all pretty grim and included stuff like blindness and death. I signed it.
I'm still here.
Drs are drs. They did the right thing, and I prefer to be told things straight.
On another matter,
HeyJim,
I wish I could get to the point of not asking questions and just being.
Best
Jay, I also had my brain bleed in 2007. My doctor (who was the best of the best) told my family that he didn't know if I would survive and if I did, he didn't know the results. I belive they have to tell our loved ones the truth, as it is at that time. After my bleed it took 2 years for the radiation to take my AVM away..During that final appointment with him, after telling me I was AVM Free he told me I was his miracle case. To answer your question, I don't think the doctors know what to expect..they just do the best they can! Thank God!
