Hi Olga,

I'm sure you are aware of this, but you really need to speak with your medical team before you arrive (whichever one you pick in the US) to try to have a block of time allocated so that ALL your treatments can be accomplished in one trip hopefully. For example, our team on the west coast pretty well shuts down treatment every August, so that the specialists can travel, lecture, and vacation.

If you just set up one appointment, they might fit you in and then request you come back later for more treatment. Just a heads up.

Hope this helps.
Ron, KS

Hi Olga, I just noticed this...Have you found a good doctor in NY? If not I will give you the names of mine..they are excelent!

Dr. Berenestein and Dr. Niimi at the Center for Endovascular surgery at The Hyman-Newman Institute for Neurology. They are located in St. Roosevelt hospital in NYC. I have had a good expierence with them, they have did my embo.

They did mine as well...I had 5 embolizations, and just a month ago they removed my AVM. I feel they are the best! :-) http://neuro.wehealny.org/endo/staff_alejandro-berenstein.asp

Hello Olga,

I just now came across this post. I am not sure if you have made a decision as of yet but my daughter is 2 years s/p avm removal from NYU Medical Hospital located at 530 First Avenue in Manhattan. This is a teaching hospital therefore they are up to date on the latest. Dr. Jafar Jafar is the Chief of Neurology and is brilliant. He removed the 5cm AVM for my daughter who was 18yrs old at the time. They have a great team of doctors and the nursing staff are wonderful. I hope this helps you. God Bless.

Hi Olga,
I, like many of the other members in this discussion, use Dr. Berenestein and Dr. Niimi at the Center for Endovascular surgery at The Hyman-Newman Institute for Neurology. They are located in St. Roosevelt hospital in NYC. Dr Berenstein saved my life! He is the leading interventional neuroradiologist at New York City’s Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Berenstein has pioneered minimally invasive procedures to treat Vein of Galen malformations and other AVMs. Please try a simple google search on him, and the results will surely support my strong opinions of him.
Hope everything works out for you. Please keep us updated on who you choose and how it goes....
-Birdie

Hi Olga, Birdie is correct. The link I left you above is his. He saved my life as well :-)
